A Children’s Holiday Easter Party: Hopping Mad Enjoyment
By Gail Leino
The traditional symbols of Easter are rabbits and eggs. However, there is a significant religious association with this occasion. As many celebrations and holidays of our time, Easter has somewhat evolved. The significance of rabbits and eggs stems from what was originally a celebration of the ancient goddess Eastre, who in ancient times was considered the goddess of fertility. In present times, Easter has meant a time for children to embrace both the religious aspects of the occasion. After children have gone to church or acknowledge the religious aspect of Easter, it is usually time for a party.
Easter occurs on a Sunday between the middle of March and April, which is springtime. The good news about having an Easter party is that you don’t have to worry about the children running and playing in your home. You can easily decorate and hold the entire festivities outdoors.
Whether it is in the form of chocolate, pink confection, a stuffed animal, or in its real life form, a rabbit must make an appearance at an Easter party. Children love surprises. Instead of a traditional Easter egg hunt, your party could feature an afternoon with a jumbo rabbit. You don’t have to visit your local pet store. Instead, purchase an adult-size bunny suit and have someone dress up as the Easter bunny. Your Easter bunny could lead several activities with the children. If you must have an Easter egg hunt, instead of the children hunting real colored eggs, have the Easter bunny hid large plastic eggs with gifts inside. You can purchase plastic eggs that are empty and bundle your own creative gifts, or buy those that are already pre-filled with goodies. In either case you are sure to win over many young hearts.
