Easter 2008 - A Time for Every Purpose by TimG

All around the globe today, church pews were filled. Seats, which were vacant last Sunday and most every other Sunday, were warmed by the rear ends of insincere doubters out of a sense of tradition, obligation, or both. While churches may benefit from today in their coffers, church leaders ought to be dismayed by this outpouring of upturn. This should be cold, hard evidence that their message is failing. However, this may be an indicator as to the ultimate demise of the Christian religion.

Notice I did not say, “the Christian faith.” After all, faith seems to be the single thread from which the religion hangs. The Christian religion, in fact every religion, is being tried by this new digital age. Knowledge at the touch of a button… Access to all kinds of stuff within minutes… Lack of motivation to delve deep within ourselves… The need for religious institutions is waning in modern civilizations - a big reason that faith-based revival happens mainly in exceptionally rural communities and third-world settings.

The fall of religion seems imminent, unavoidable. The church itself has become little more than a business model. As such, the product it sells falls on discriminant ignorance. Unless it entertains or has value-added features which can be sold to the masses, the true message of faith in a creator falls on deaf ears and blind eyes. As with any endeavor of the human mind, religion, too, will make way for something new.

Like the dot-com bubble, and the more recent housing bubble, religion itself is on the brink of bursting in modern civilizations. Churches have been popping up with reckless abandon, with all kinds of names, faces, and “product.” The time is coming, when the human condition will bring us back to the age-old questions, such as, “Why are we here?”

We will soon begin to see a revival in those who seek God - and nothing except the higher power itself will be able to fill the void. It’s only a matter of time because these things go in cycles. Like Babylon, Jerusalem, and Rome as predecessors… this self-seeking “Western” civilization will fail to fulfill the spiritual need of its people. People may be distracted at present, but when they begin to realize they are truly not satisfied and fulfilled… they will ultimately degenerate or emmigrate - leaving nothing but a shell of a civilization where anarchy reigns.

Maybe now is the time…
